I study till my lungs are bloody

Evan says that my writing is profanity laced, and after checking out my last post I suppose that could be true. I just wanted to point this out publicly because it makes Evan seem like a dweeb.

On to subjects that will make me out to be a dweeb. I am unsure how many of you have met Jon (aka. Daigan), but each year he participates in a writing competition called Another 48 hours. I see this as an exercise for aspiring writers, where the writers are given a topic to write about on Friday nights and then have the weekend to put on story (poem/essay/diatribe… ) relating to that topic on paper. The writers participating in the contest then offer critiques and vote for their favourite writing each week. I suppose I am writing this down because somewhere in my head I think that I would like to do something like that (little know fact #1: I was a dominant force in Creative Writing 10, 20 and 30). I also know that I will likely not follow up on anything like this due to lack of motivation. At least now I have left myself a reminder.

Next dorky subject: Anthony Bourdain. For those of you who don’t know the name he is the guy who wrote Kitchen Confidential. For those of you who don’t know the book, just skip on past this fanboy shit. So Tony is a chef who wrote the best autobiography ever. After writing this autobiography he got all famous and decided to write another book. This book is basically a travel diary and while travelling for it he filmed a TV show with the same name as the book, “A Cook’s Tour”. This is probably my favourite TV show. This is a trainwreck of a paragraph so I am stopping now.

The new apple computer got released to day and it is hot. I want one. I’ve been slowly saving up for the new imac, but this may be a better idea. Mostly because I have almost enough cash right now and I can throw together the other parts easy enough. Things to think about indeed.

Peace.

You know, if you're interested enough, I bet you could join in. I joined in late last year.

You should, it's fun. Let me know.

Oh, yeah, and as per the fixie: This doesn't have to be hard on your wallet. I know one guy who built up a fixed gear bike for about 30$ and some time with a torch. Chris' bike, which has some pretty sweet parts, cost less than 300. Even a brand new complete bianchi pista you can get for about 700 CAD - It just needs a brake (TRUST ME, you need a brake, at least starting out).

That being said, you have time to think about that. Also, time to think about what kind of bike it would be: Track, Street, or even off-road.

For the fixie I am thinking a road bike, although there is a velodrome right near my house and a track bike would be fun. I'd like the road bike because it would give me something different to do, that I can't really accomplish on my Nunu or my bmx. As for 48 Hours, I think I may just try writing a couple and see how I do for time and quality before I try anything legit. I'll keep you posted on both fronts.

Things to note:

a track bike is different from a road bike. The geometry is very different (more control, less tability) and they have track ends, not dropouts.

Track ends are actually nice, they let you get some nice tension. If you do get a road frame, make sure it has horizontal drop-outs, otherwise you can't get proper chain tension without a pricey rear hub (the Eno hub)
