I came to bring the pain, with no relief

Welcome to the longest blog I will ever post, also know as:

Punk Bands I Have Seen Live (semi-exhaustive listing)

Mike posted this list in it’s original form, and seeing I was at most of the shows he listed I thought I would modify it to reflect what I have seen. This is more so for myself to help me remember these shows, but if you suffer through it you will be rewarded by an intimate knowledge of bands I have seen. On with the show.

- OWC (First show I saw with mike, first show in the Animal Farm, second best show I have ever been to)

- straight faced (Second (?) show at the Animal Farm, best show I have ever been to)
- junto(?) (Great band from Saskatoon that I have seen many, many times. Saw their supposed last show with both drummers. The cocks were way out on that one)
- bigwig- dfa(8) ( I saw these guys the first time they played. Twice in the same day in fact. They opened for Diesel Boy to a crowd of approximately 7 people.)
- set aside(6) (I think I saw the first show these guys played as well. They opened for Junto and were awesome. Dave didn’t like them.)
- segment 9(2) (They had a song about killing your teacher if she was fat or sleeping with her if she was hot. No one in the punk scene liked them except for me and mike after that.)
- 400 strong (Opened for Strung Out in Regina first time we were there)
- reset (Saw these guys at Louis, I think they are now called Simple Plan, or one of those bands)
- strung out(5) (Some of the best shows I have ever been to were put on by this band, and when Jason Cruz wears his glasses you can’t tell its him. And I always thought everyone was stupid for not knowing Clark Kent was Superman)
- gob (I swear I’ve seen them but I don’t know where, someone refresh my memory)
- choke (2) (With Strung Out, and then with AFI, which was the only show I ever saw in the Upper MUB)
- chixdiggit (With Flashlight and Frenzal Rhomb in the bowl)
- green day(2) (Warped Tour 00, one of those festivals that used to hit Saskatoon. I have Tre Cool's drumstick from that show.)
- ten foot pole (Maybe this was the first show I saw with Mike. Can’t remember, but it is definitely the first show where I picked up a shirt. This was also definitely in 98)
- frenzal rhomb (In the bowl. These guys are way underrated)
- nobodys (w/ Straight Faced and 30 Foot Fall at the Animal Farm)
- 30 foot fall (see above)
- jugheads revenge (In Edmonton with the Vandals and the offspring, it barely counts because it was in a stadium, they redeemed the whole thing by playing Domino)
- the offspring (see above)
- the vandals (2) (Warped Tour and Edmonton)

- h2o (I don’t know if I ever saw these guys but I think I did, I need Mike’s help on some of this)
- flashlight (2) (Sonia Bianchi is a great fucking song, these guys deserve way more credit)
- mad caddies (2) (I think twice?)
- good riddance(4) (Saskatoon at Louie’s x2 (I think it might be 3), and the Warped Tour, and the Reading Festival in Reading, England)
- guy smiley (Canadian Hardcore my ass, these guys sucked, Louie's)
- ensign (at Louis’, these guys are the only New Jersey Hardcore band I have ever seen and they ruled. Silent Weapons for Quiet Wars is a great album)
- diesel boy (2) (This show was during some summer in high school where Mike adn I hung out at the Animal Farm lots. Favorite summer ever. They played at 3 in the afternoon for the smallest crowd ever at the Animal Farm, it was sweet, plus Jord’s sister was there and she is hot.)
- the portmans(4) (These guys were awesome. The only local band I bought cds from other than OWC)
- tubesteak (Played at the Animal Farm the night of the Diesel Boy show I think)
- grade(3) (My favourite live band ever, I sang along to songs I didn’t know the words to. They loved it here.)
- the radissons (I remember seeing them play just cos the drummer was wearing an orange toque. I don’t know where, or what show it was. Oh ya, they also played their first show ever at a show my band put on in Alvin’s backyard way back when I was in grade nine I think)
- OAAU(2) (once again I remember seeing these guys play, but that is all. No idea where or with who)
- weakerthans (Played in the Animal Farm. Absolutely destroyed)
- SNFU (Played the show where Union 13 didn’t make it across the border, and I got no Mexican hardcore. I still want my money back)
- sixty stories(3) (you should see the pics of Mike and I with the band where we were both wielding fierce teen staches. My favourite not really punk band)
- kaizen (I think these were the guys who played the song that was supposed to sound like the bomb dropping on Hiroshima)
- rotundi (saw these dudes at the pit, which was on a gravel road in the middle of the city. Scariest place ever.)
- death by stereo(2) (These guys played at Louie’s a couple times. I don’t know if I liked them or not)
- downway (2) (Downway played at Louie’s. I think it was opening for good riddance, or maybe ten foot pole)
- one stone dog (2) (these guys were never good)
- cowpie (5) (these guys were awesome. Best thing to ever come out of La Ronge)
- 13-31 (Best band that ever spontaneously combusted. They sounded like AAA)
- untimely demise(3) (I think we saw their first show too. They got good, and then disappeared)
- full meal deal(4) (I don’t remember much about these guys other than I saw them enough times that Hoover said hi to me at school)
- STA (I don’t know what this stands for, but I bet I saw them)
- chinese hardware(2) (can’t remember them, but I bet they played a couple covers)
- stricken (never heard of them but I prolly saw them)
- the goat next door (I swear we have seen them more than once, or else I wouldn’t remember the hot lead singer so vividly)
- AFI (3) (AFI is awesome, despite the fact that Davey Havoc turned into a hot goth girl. Saw them in prarie land, upper MUB, and somewher else?)
- Sick Of It All (warped tour? Maybe not, I dunno)
- wishing well (I won their cd at Sid’s Garage at what I recall was a grade show and for some reason Corey now has that cd)
- Not By Choice (opened for Blackalicious at the Prarieland)
- on deaf ears (See below)
- That hardcore band who covered either the sesame street song, or fraggle rock. They played with Sixty Stories and On Deaf Ears, I saw the show with Ash, Cousin Mike and Mandy. Someone tell me their name or my head will explode.)

- fasttrack (Maybe? They are sandwiched between two bands I have seen, so I think they might have opened for one of them)
- the getaway (I think I saw them open for Prop or someone at sid’s, I did see them, just not sure with who)
- preshure point (In the bassment with flashlight and grade, they rocked hard).
- the line (Saw them open for Yellowcard here in Calgary, only show I have been to here so far)
- rise against (3) (Opening for Strung Out at the Odeon, the next night in Regina, and the warped tour)
- snapcase (3) (With Strung Out and Rise Against, 2 nights in a row. I only know one of their songs, but they play it every time)
- voyd (Think I saw them at the Odeon, maybe I just saw their singer hanging out there)
- killing paperboy (Sounds like Reach The Sky, great screaming)
- propagandhi (At Sid’s, one of those bands I am glad I saw before I got old and became a lame fucking accountant)
- randy (Opened for Prop)
- yellowcard (3) (Warped Tour, U of C, The Pat all in a 6 month span)
- eighteen visions (Warped Tour (?), opened for strung out)
- misery signals (In regina at some church or something. Played after Undying)
- undying (see above)
- rancid (I dunno if I have seen them or not, but I seem to think I have, who knows)
- andrew w.k (2) (At the Odeon in the best stadium rock show ever, and again at Reading, although I only caught the tail end)
- Poison the well (with AFI at prarieland)
- kinison (they wear tight pants, saw them at Louie’s)
- raised fist ( I actually didn’t see them but I bought Mike his ticket, he owes me one live recording)
- a static lullaby (with Strung Out, I think some other time too, but I am unsure)
- the pinch (at Lydia’s and somewhere else I think)
- spitalfield ( I think I saw these dudes in Regina, but I’m not sure)
- alexisonfire (2) (At Louie’s twice, I love watching this band)- billy talent (with alexisonfire at Louis)
- death from above 1979 (with strung out, a static lullaby and 18 visions (?) or maybe it was with Alexisonfire, they played a song about how pulling out is great birth control)

- my chemical romance (warped tour 04)
- bouncing souls (warped tour 04, Reading Festival and punk-o-rama tour 02?)
- taking back sunday (3 songs tornado warning at the warped 04)
- story of the year (warped tour 04)
- bad religion (warped tour 04)
- nofx (warped tour x2, 00 and 04)
- sum 41 (caught half a show in regina, missed both opening bands)
- dropkick murphy’s (punk-o-rama tour at Louie’s)

- NUFAN (Reading)
- the get-up kids (Reading)
- Saves the Day (at Reading before I knew any of their songs, I’m disappointed because I like a lot of their stuff now.)

- Flogging Molly (are they already on this list? I saw them at warped 04)
- Thursday (2) (Reading and Warped 04)
- Dashboard Confessional (Reading)
- fordirelifessake (I think mike and I watched these dudes before undying)
- Belvedere (Warped 00)
- untold amounts of local bands who did not last long enough to merit a spot in my memory (like the crust band Malcolm was in who sang that song “Sandwich”, or whoever played with Junto that night they came out naked, I think it was the Halloween show).
- Metric (Warped 04 - I think I watched them, or maybe Dave did and he told me about them)
- Midtown (Reading again)
- Mighty Mighty Bosstones (That DV8 thing, and warped 00 I think)
- Letter Kills (watched them at warped waiting for Atmosphere to come on(?))
- Millencollin (warped 00, forgot about that until I looked up the lineup)
- Long Beach Dub All Stars (warped 00)
- Suicide Machines (warped 00)
- Face to Face (Reading)
- Jimmy Eat World (Reading)

- The Matches (w/ Yellowcard at the U of C)
- The Starting Line (w/Yellowcard at the U of C)

I think that list is as comprehensive as I can get it without 3rd party input. Some digging around was required for those at the end, but I think I got most of them. This actually feels good to have something like this documented. A small piece of my history is now to be preserved until google shuts this server down. Awesome.

You saw Ten foot pole with me and dave at Louie's. Reset and Bigwig opened for them, but we thought we were supposed to pick up mike, so we missed them.

I think that's what I can contribute. The rest is straightforward, just Warp 00 and the AFI show, I think.

man you saw the kinison? did I see the kinison? I've listened to them a little lately, who did they play with?

Man, I think Kinison was that brutal band who played on the Strung Out tour at Louie's. They played before A Static Lullaby and 18 Visions from what I recall. I need Mike's backup on this.
