So let's drink it in the darkness if you know what I mean
I just listened to a song by The Spins called Cougar. The chorus was “I am looking for a virgin, but they are like the buffalo”. This likely would have been inappropriate had it not been a girl singing. Instead it was just entertaining.
I also listened to a Martin Luther King Jr. speech today. It was the one he gave the day before he was assassinated, when he talked about how he wasn’t scared of death right at the end. I’ve never really been one to sit around and listen to speeches, but this one was incredible. I certainly change the channel whenever one of those state of the union addresses, or whatever the Canadian equivalent it comes on, but I would recommend giving this a listen if you can track it down. I was most impressed by the time it ended, even though it seemed drawn out in the middle.
So I got thinking about MLK day and thought I would see what some of the regular guys I read on the internet had to say about it. Not too much from the looks of things. Dave Zirin, who I can count on to always be the angriest dude around had nothing to write about it, although he did have a sweet article about racism in the NFL. Last I checked Bill Simmons hadn’t written anything at all today, not that I really expected something out of him on that subject. I was more looking for his reaction to the Patriots’ loss this weekend. Allhiphop had a piece up, but it didn’t really deal with Dr. King, but with how hip-hop isn’t living up to his challenge. Pitchfork and prefixmag didn’t even have any good album reviews. With my daily run of random websites coming up dry, I turned to fark to see what shit they pulled out of it. Nothing. I could have gone to google and looked up some legitimate sites, but I was looking forward to some random article by some person who really had no business writing about MLK day, because those are generally the more fun to read. This definitely didn’t happen.
My conclusion from all of this is that the internet failed today. Nothing like when a billion people decided to draw batgirl after one person posted some 3 year-old concept sketches they had. That was great. So were those pictures of the cyclops cat and the green pigs.
As a final point, I need a haircut too.
Peace.
