You're not that social, just a good drinker

It’s been a while since I posted anything of substance, so I thought I’d give people a little update as to what I’ve been up to (plus the Flames just won and now I have nothing else to do tonight). My job in Kelowna has had me on the road quite a bit lately. I was in Banff for a few days, and tomorrow I’m heading to Salmon Arm until Friday. I don’t mind travelling, but it would be far more enjoyable if it wasn’t for work.

The majority of my weekends have been spent snowboarding at Big White, a mountain I have found to be far more enjoyable than the Banff hills. I like the terrain (Big White has great glades) and the snow is way better. I think I’ve been getting better since I started riding out here, but I am still a little bitch about things like jumps. This has led to what I would describe as Warren Miller style riding, but not in the gnarly 80’s style sense, more in the “not cool looking riding” sense of it. That probably doesn’t make sense to most people. Let’s just say I am really into carving. Here, look at a picture (and note the wide carves):

I got a bunch of books for Christmas, which I’ve been diligent in reading most nights. I’m currently in the middle of On the Road by jack Kerouac. I really like Kerouac’s style and I’ve generally been enjoying the works of the Beat Generation. That’s the kind of stuff that makes me wish I had any writing talent. I find their works go well with the music I’ve been into of late. The Wombats (who I’ve posted before), Dear & The Headlights, Belle & Sebastian (as per usual) and Los Campesinos have all been getting lots of play. I think I could group them together under story-telling rock were I inclined to do something like that. The punk rock band of the moment is Smoke or Fire, and the hip-hop of the day is Termanology.

So that is what I’ve been up to. Hope everyone is doing well. Now I’ll leave you with something ridiculous. This Spank Rock video is decidedly not safe for work. There are boobs all over it. The beat is goddamn ridiculous though.

This was my favourite album this year, and my favourite song on it. I listened to lots of other good stuff too, but making lists is way too much work.
